Organisational Profile
Concordis International Trust
Concordis International is a non-profit charity organisation that works alongside and in support of official peace processes, where they exist, to improve the potential for lasting peace. We have offices in Cambridge, Khartoum and Juba. Formed in 2004 from an initiative of the Relationships Foundation, the organisation builds on the foundation of work by The Newick Park Iniative (NPI). The NPI had been involved in both South Africa and Rwanda. Much of our work now focuses on Sudan and South Sudan and we remain actively engaged there both nationally and with respect to regional conflicts, including Darfur. There is an emphasis on gender awareness within programmes and women from Darfur and elsewhere in Sudan have played a prominent role in the process.
Concordis has a strong track record of co-operation and is a member of British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND) and of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, Washington DC and participates in joint working groups with other agencies working in the fields of security, peacebuilding and development. We have also recently worked with:
- Conciliation Resources on a Sudan edition of the highly respected ‘Accord’ publication on peace processes (read it here)
- The United States Institute for Peace on a consultation for Darfurian diaspora in North America and our recent research publication commissioned by USIP, More than a Line: Sudan’s North South Border in 2010 available here.
- The Alliance for Peacebuilding on a consultation to improve cooperation between UK conflict transformation organizations
- International Alert on two workshops to develop scenarios for post- 2011 Sudan.
The organisation has helped to build relationships across conflict boundaries and we continue to conduct research into countries and conflicts where our work might be of value.

Methodology
Concordis International’s strategic interventions are based on unofficial and low profile dialogue between and across different levels of society on different sides engaged in or affected by violent conflicts. Interventions are informed by expert contributions and research. This:
- Builds trust across lines of conflict and social divisions
- Facilitates consensus building on the basis of shared interest
- Contributed positively to negotiation processes
- Creates the climate for more general peaceful relations
Concordis’ work is guided by conscious impartiality as a facilitator and sustained, long term engagement. For more information about our methodology click here.
