Pathways to Peace in Afghanistan
We have been working since February 2009 as part of a consortium that is working with the University of Kabul and others in a project that is known as 'Pathways to Peace', to promote, support and inform Afghan peace processes at community, national and regional levels; to establish a civil society platform for conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan; and to communicate with and influence policymakers in support of conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.
Direct funding for the early (research) stage of the project has been provided by the Canadian Government. Our own contribution is so far without dedicated funding. Nevertheless, we have been able to support the planning process, primarily in an advisory capacity. Our background paper on Civil Society and a Comprehensive Peace Process has helped to ground the process in experience from elsewhere in the world.
